About Davie Florida
Davie Florida is part of the South Florida Metropolitan area. It is located in Broward County and has a population of nearly 85,000 people.
Davie Florida was founded by settlers and their families who were working in the Panama Canal Zone. For this reason the original name of the town was Zona. Davie Florida kept this name until Randolph Davie bought almost 30,000 acres in the area. Most of the newly named Town of Davie was carved out of the Everglades whose early history was centered around drainage issues, some of which persist even to this day.
Upon entering Davie Florida, you might think you've taken a wrong turn and ended up in a typical old west town. Throughout the city, you'll see an old western motif, complete with hitching posts in front of many businesses including the local McDonalds. This architectural design pays homage to the Cattlemen and Ranchers who founded this frontier town of the early 1900's.
Davie is host of the South Florida Educational Center. Many educational institutions have campuses in Davie, including: Florida International University, Broward Community College and ITT Technical Institute.
The William T McFatter Technical Center in Davie Florida is one of only 20 throughout Florida honored by being named a New Millennium High School. The School Board of Broward County has given the school an "A" rating for the last six years.
